TECHNATION Canada ready to boost career readiness with UNF students

Career Ready Program gives students an opportunity to participate in paid work placements.

Students at the University of Niagara Falls Canada (UNF) will be able to enhance their career readiness thanks to a recently announced partnership between Global University Systems (GUS) Canada and TECHNATION Canada*.

UNF is one of several institutional brands from GUS Canada included in the collaboration, connecting students to TECHNATION’s Career Ready Program. A key initiative of the Government of Canada’s Student Work Placement Program (SWPP), it offers students an opportunity to gain practical work experience in their field of study through paid placements.

Empowering students through work-integrated learning

The Career Ready Program supports businesses by financing their decision to hire students for work placements. Through this initiative, employers receive wage subsidies, while students benefit from real-world experience, bridging the gap between academic learning and the workforce. This hands-on approach ensures students are prepared to meet industry demands upon graduation, making them highly attractive to potential employers.

In addition to these placements, the program also leverages key tools like CareerFinder, LaunchPad and SkillPassport to provide labour market insights and educational opportunities for students pursuing careers in Canada’s tech sector. Free events such as speaker series, student challenges, and hackathons are also part of this initiative, fostering interest in tech-related fields.

Building a future-ready workforce

Diana Mockute, Chief Partnership Officer at GUS Canada, remarked, “This partnership represents a significant step forward in offering students meaningful work-integrated learning experiences and preparing them for successful careers.”

Echoing this sentiment, Heather-Anne McGilvary, Executive Director at TECHNATION, added, “Together, we’re empowering students with paid, tech-meaningful work placements, ensuring they graduate with the high-demand skills that employers seek, creating a seamless transition into professional careers.”

This partnership is poised to impact hundreds of students, helping them gain valuable work experience and preparing them for a successful future in Canada’s technology sector.

The future of work-integrated learning

As technology continues to shape the future workforce, this collaboration between GUS Canada and TECHNATION is a forward-thinking move that emphasizes the importance of work-integrated learning. By connecting education with industry needs, this partnership equips students with both the knowledge and practical skills necessary to thrive in a competitive job market.
