Help us name the fox!
The University of Niagara Falls Canada is excited to introduce its new official mascot, a bold and spirited fox. Known for its resourcefulness and resilience, the fox perfectly reflects the determination and creativity of UNF students.
Now, we’re calling on students, faculty, and staff to help choose the perfect name.
The fox was selected as the university’s mascot for its intelligence, adaptability, and strength – qualities that reflect the spirit of the Foxes, our campus community.
“This new mascot symbolizes who we are as a university – quick-thinking, resilient, and always ready for a challenge,” said David Gray, Provost and Vice-President, Academic. “We can’t wait to see the energy and school spirit our fox brings to our campus and beyond.”
As we welcome this new symbol of school pride, we invite everyone to participate in our mascot naming contest. Name the fox and help us find the perfect name for our newest ambassador.
“This is a mascot for everyone at UNF, and we want the whole community be part of the naming process,” said Gray.
The contest starts at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23 and ends at noon on Friday, May 2, 2025. All university community members are encouraged to submit their best name ideas. A university-issued email address is needed to participate.
The top submissions will be shared for a campus-wide vote, with the winning name announced when the mascot is revealed during a special event.
The individual whose original mascot name suggestion is selected will be recognized during the mascot reveal and will receive a UNF Foxes jersey, valued at $99 + tax. Submissions can be made through our online submission form. A list of official contest rules can be found at unfc.ca/mascot. Follow UNF on social media to stay updated on the contest and share your excitement using #NameTheFox.
