This course explores developing a digital mindset in a rapidly changing world. Students examine behaviours, attitudes, and key characteristics necessary for navigating the digital economy. They identify required digital fluency skills, learn to foster this mindset in themselves and others, and understand the importance of continuous learning, curiosity, and innovation.

Business is one of the fundamental units of society. This course studies business management and operations, emphasizing digital technology's impact. Students explore how innovations transform traditional business models, examining core functions like production, marketing, HR, accounting, and finance within a Canadian context, including law and ethics. Key concepts include e-commerce and emerging technologies.

This course introduces fundamental microeconomic principles, concepts, tools, and real-world applications. Students explore consumer and firm decision-making, market functions, and government intervention. Key concepts include elasticity, utility, pricing, competition, costs, and externalities, applied to evolving digital environments. Students will interpret current events using microeconomic theories.

This course equips students with communication skills, including audience analysis, content creation, medium selection, and visual integration. Students learn research integration, persuasion strategies, and proficiency in electronic communication methods and digital tools for effective team collaboration.

Accounting is central to business operations. Students will explore the full accounting cycle, accrual accounting and the interpretation of financial statements. Using the Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), students will learn to prepare cash flow statements and interpret financial statements.

This course examines how digital technologies are changing marketing. Students learn the why and how of digital marketing and sales, multi-channel selling, and online marketing. They study traditional and online marketing, customer behaviour, market research, product analysis, distribution, pricing, and promotion.

Students examine macroeconomic concepts: circular flow of income and product; national income; equilibrium level of domestic income; fiscal policy; money and banking; international trade; inflation and unemployment. Students will explore how governments apply monetary and fiscal policies to stabilize the economy and achieve economic goals.

Students will learn statistical concepts, methods and procedures used in business, including descriptive statistics--graphics and numerical presentations, data analysis, data generation, probability theory, sampling, estimation, hypothesis testing and linear regression. Students will use statistical software applications throughout the course.

Students will examine the concepts of financial techniques necessary to assist the organization obtain capital and manage it effectively. Models of evaluating various returns will be based on accounting inputs. Students will develop decision-making skills in relation to the cost and availability of funds and maximizing economic returns. Fintech and cryptocurrencies will also be examined.

Key management functions take place through computer-assisted processes. Understanding how computers operate in the workplace and integrate with organizational strategy and human limitations is an essential managerial knowledge set. Students will learn the range of computer-based process tools and their appropriate work applications, as well as cloud technologies, issues in cyber security, and developing trends within the ICT sector.

Students will gain a practical overview of project management that will provide them with the essential skills, tools, terminology, and models to deliver projects on time and within parameters. Students will work through a complete project life cycle, applying the five project management process groups: Initiating; Planning; Executing; Monitoring and Controlling; and, Closing.

This course explores the transformative impact of digital technologies on business and society. Students examine the digital economy's foundations, including information and communication technology. They study digital economic theories, the influence of the internet, mobile communications, social media, and cryptocurrencies on e-business, and analyze successful digital economy strategies through case studies.

Canadian business professionals need global business acumen in today's digital world. This course provides a broad understanding of the global marketplace and international business essentials. Students learn international business principles, practices, and influencing factors, examining trade blocs, patterns, rules, treaties, and foreign exchange. Case studies explore cultural, economic, legal, and ethical impacts.

This course explores Big Data, its importance, and sources. Students learn terminology, core concepts, related technologies, data ownership, and the analysis process. Through case studies, they examine how Big Data analysis identifies problems and generates solutions, evaluating its challenges and benefits across sectors, including the role of AI and Machine Learning.

This course examines how to transform resources into products and services, emphasizing quality and productivity. Students study supply chain and logistics design, planning, execution, and control, focusing on system-wide integration of efficient processes. They explore current and emerging technologies supporting supply chain and operations management in the digital economy.

In this course, students will examine and apply organizational behaviour theories and concepts and will gain insight into the behaviours of individuals, groups, teams and organizations. Students will analyze case studies dealing with organizational behaviours and interactions in the contemporary workplace and recommend solutions or actions that support the organization’s goals.

This course examines business ethics, values, and ethical management practices. Students apply ethical reasoning to various business contexts, analyzing ethical decision-making regarding stakeholders and sustainability. They investigate Corporate Social Responsibility, global and multicultural business ethics, and frameworks for ethical decision-making in digital environments.

According to a study commissioned by BDC examining Canadian business trends through 2030, technology will be a dominant driver of change in the country’s business landscape. Workplaces will require different skills, as will leaders.  

From retail to manufacturing, construction to health care, there will be a need for people who lead with a strong digital mindset – who recognize the need to invest in new technologies, hire tech savvy employees and increase the digital skills of existing workers.  

In a KPMG study, 87 per cent of Canada’s small to medium businesses are looking to turn data into useful insights to identify inefficiencies and reduce or control costs. The overwhelming majority (97 per cent) agree that keeping up with technology will be central to staying ahead of competitors.

            Applicants must meet the following minimum conditions for admission: 

            • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent credential)
              •  Six Grade 12 4U or 4M-level course, including Ontario ENG4U (or equivalent) and any 1 4U Math
                • Minimum average of 70% on best 6 Grade 12 4U or 4M-level courses
                  • Must meet English language proficiency requirements (if applicable)

                    Applicants must submit:

                    • A completed application form 
                      • Official high school transcript
                        • Documents outlining current courses such as a high school Credit Summary sheet from your Guidance Office or a Confirmation of Enrollment form from your current Post-Secondary Institution (if any)
                          • Official transcripts from all post- secondary institutions attended (if any)
                            • Proof of English language proficiency, if applicable
                              • Certified translations of any required documents not in English

                                Applicants from outside Canada must also submit:

                                • Documentation confirming their secondary level or high school completion was awarded, if not already indicated on official transcripts

                                    Choosing to pursue a university education is a big commitment that impacts every aspect of your life – including your finances. Our fees are determined by the total cost of individual credits per academic year.                                     The Office of the Registrar had dedicated more than $15 million in scholarships, awards and financial support to students in 2025. Entrance Awards are for newly admitted international and domestic students, while Academic Scholarships are for those entering the second term of their program.

                                    What courses do I need to qualify for admission?

                                    Applicants from Ontario need six Grade 12 4U or 4M-level courses, including program specific course requirements of Ontario 4U Math and 4U English, or their equivalent.  Your overall minimum grade average must be 70%.

                                    What are the available majors for this program?

                                    You can choose from one of two high-impact majors with your HBBA: digital economy or digital marketing. 

                                    Will I gain practical experience?

                                    There are several opportunities for you to gain practical experience through this program, including work-integrated learning opportunities and capstone research projects.
