New partnership provides pathway to medical school for University of Niagara Falls Canada students

Pre-Med Pathway charts course to Saba University School of Medicine and Medical University of the Americas for Honours Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences students

The University of Niagara Falls Canada (UNF) has signed a partnership agreement with Saba University School of Medicine (SUSOM) and the Medical University of the Americas (MUA) to create a pathway for its undergraduate students to continue on to medical school.

The Pre-Med Pathway offers UNF students in the Honours Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences program the opportunity to fast-track their medical careers while saving both time and money.

The pathway allows eligible students to complete three years of their four-year undergraduate program at UNF and, upon acceptance, begin their medical studies at either of the partner medical schools. After successfully completing two semesters in one of the two Doctor of Medicine (MD) programs, students will earn their final 30 undergraduate credits and receive their honours bachelor’s degree from UNF.

This accelerated route allows participants to graduate with both their Honours Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences and medical degrees one year faster than the traditional timeline.

“We are thrilled to partner with Saba University School of Medicine and Medical University of the Americas to provide our students with a seamless and cost-effective pathway to achieving their dreams of becoming physicians,” said David Gray, Provost and Vice-President, Academic at UNF. “This pathway underscores our commitment to academic excellence and student success.”

To further support students, pathway participants are eligible for a UNF Partner Scholarship at either medical school, valued at $20,000 USD. Including the UNF Partnership Scholarship, through the Pre-Med Pathway students will be eligible for up to $185,000 USD in financial support at SUSOM and up to $52,500 USD at MUA, making these already cost-effective MD programs even more accessible for students.

This pathway allows students the opportunity to earn an internationally accredited medical degree, secure a post-graduate residency, and ultimately practice as a medical doctor one year sooner. This offers career earnings, progression, and achievement benefits.

“The partnerships between University of Niagara Falls Canada and our medical schools, Saba University School of Medicine and Medical University of the Americas, create defined pathways for students to progress into an MD program.” said James Bruzik, PhD, Chief Academic Officer for SUSOM and MUA. “It is exciting that in the current healthcare climate, where there is a physician shortage, these opportunities can help improve access to medical care.”
