Primary Purpose
We are seeking a qualified Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst to join our dynamic team at the University of Niagara Falls (UNF). This position will report directly to the Manager of Student Systems and Business Intelligence within the Office of the Registrar. The BI Analyst combines business acumen and technical skills to address data and reporting needs, including but not limited to Ellucian Insights, Colleague, Power BI, Salesforce, and other applications at the University. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing data, generating reports, quality audits and providing insights that will drive strategic business decisions. By enhancing transactional and reporting functions, the Analyst supports the University’s objectives and provides valuable feedback and recommendations to the stakeholders.
Specific Responsibilities
The BI Analyst will be responsible for the following, as well as other related duties as assigned, to support the business objectives and purpose of the Office of the Registrar and the University:
- Recommends, develops, and implements procedures to ensure; the protection, accuracy, and integrity of data, including data monitoring and reconciliations.
- Analyse complex data sets and identify trends, patterns, and insights to support decision-making processes.
- Work with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into BI solutions.
- Research reasons for data anomalies and ensure appropriate corrections or adjustments are made. Documents and reviews any system irregularities and liaises with relevant stakeholders to resolve data anomalies or system questions.
- Provides business and technical expertise for the analytics process, tools and applications for the University. Identifies opportunities that improve data accuracy and efficiency of our processes. Contributes to the development of training materials, documenting processes, and delivering sessions.
- Assesses appropriate reporting mechanisms, developing customized queries as necessary, maintaining procedures and documentation on query and report details, and documenting and maintaining a report run schedule as needed.
- Contributes to business process improvement activities through methods such as analysing processes and recommending improvements using technological functionality, participating as a member of a team in the implementation of technology improvements.
- Develop, maintain, and manage advanced reporting, analytics, dashboards, and other BI solutions.
- Follows universal and internal reporting standards to ensure consistency and transparency across reports and adheres to privacy and confidentiality policies and measures to protect data and information sources.

- Demonstrated ability to analyze, synthesize and translate complex information and data sets for varied uses and diverse audiences and produce publications for multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, prioritize tasks, proactively plan, and anticipate and problem-solve issues as they arise.
- Excellent time management, prioritization, multi-tasking skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of academic and administrative staff and applicants/students.
- Knowledge of database management principles, including strong analytical, problem solving and business analysis skills.
- Understanding of statistical analysis techniques such as correlation and regression.
- Demonstrated ability to collect data from a variety of sources including compiling metrics, synthesizing data, producing reports, and making recommendations.
- Ability to work well as a team member in a fast-paced, professional environment.
- Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and changing business requirements.
Education and Experience:
- Post-Secondary Credential in Computer Science, Business, a related field of study or an acceptable combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in an analytical and reporting capacity (preferably in an educational institution).
- Proven experience in developing and implementing BI solutions using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Ellucian Insights, or similar is required.
- Must have strong experience with SQL for querying databases and performing data analysis.
- Experience with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
- Proficient in data modeling, database design, and data mining techniques.
- Hands-on experience with data visualization and dashboard creation.
- Possess an exceptional level of proficiency in the Microsoft Suite, demonstrating comprehensive skills in applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and collaborative tools like MS Teams and OneNote.
