Position Job Title: Senior Financial Analyst

Location: Niagara Falls, Ontario

Reports To: Vice-President, Finance

Primary Purpose:
The Senior Financial Analyst role is to provide strategic financial guidance and analytical support to senior management, driving the organization’s financial health and growth. Responsibilities include financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives. Additionally, the role involves identifying opportunities for cost optimization, revenue enhancement, and risk mitigation, while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.

Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Senior Financial Analyst will collaborate closely with the finance team to support decision-making processes

Specific Responsibilities:
The Systems Analyst will be responsible for the following, as well as other related duties as assigned, to support the business objectives and purpose of the Office of the Registrar and the university:

  • Prepare the annual budget and financial analysis including budget to actual variance analysis
  • Prepare quarterly forecasting for P&L, Balance sheet and cash flow statement
  • Produce models to project long term growth and determine the impacts
  • Prepare various month end financial reports to management with variance analysis
  • Evaluate opportunities and propose revisions to existing policies in collaboration with Business Lines and Corporate Functions as needed. Guarantee thorough and up-to-date documentation of all processes, ensuring annual updates are completed.
  • Builds and delivers insightful performance reporting to understand the company performance and operational results of the organization for various audience groups.
  • Communicate to management the reasons of department performance and results
  • Support decision making by providing stakeholders with timely, detailed and meaningful insights and visibility on business performance.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of equitable allocation drivers and methodologies under the mandate of this role. Support the effective communication and transparency of these drivers to business lines and address potential issues or feedback as appropriate.
  • Proactively work with the VP, Finance and the team in pursuing enhancements that will create efficiencies within our processes and add value and additional insight to our business partners.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with business partners and cross-functional teams at all levels of the organization.
  • Undertake special projects, as required by the VP, Finance
  • Assist with external and internal audits.

  • Analytic and critical thinking capability, with strong attention to detail; ability to tackle & scrutinize complex information within tight deadlines

  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain a calm focus during high-volume periods

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting or Fianance
  • Minimum 3 years – 5 years with extensive budgeting, forecasting and reporting experience
  • CPA or relevant accounting designation preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including advanced excel skills (including experience with pivot tables, VLOOKUP’s, etc.) and ability to design spreadsheets and automate processes
  • Advanced financial modelling experience
  • High sense of urgency in providing strong level of service and follow-through
  • Demonstrated ability to roll-up sleeves and work with team members in a hands-on management capacity in a cross functional team.
  • Desirable experience in international business, education sector, prior experience in M&A activity or integration of acquisitions (specifically relating to FP&A).
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Experience developing financial reports and metrics
